News is something that has the ability to create multiple narratives around the same issue by applying angles, perspectives, and meaning towards an issue. Multimodal storytelling within journalism has allowed for news to be shaped into an immersive experience. The modalities between the BBC (British Broadcast Corporation ) and SBS (Special Broadcasting Service) utilise several techniques to immerse the readers into being apart of the story or to influence their perspective on a narrative outcome.

The journalism techniques around the 2025 Federal election between both online news sources and their social media used three categories, scene reconstruction, structure of events, and viewpoint techniques to frame the narrative, immersing readers within different types of human interest standpoints. The visual video that accompanies the text allows for a simple breakdown report of the event, reflecting the key ideas portrayed in the online article, whilst engaging with consumers through visual metaphors and connotations to convey a sense of community.

The BBC online news site covered the 2025 Federal election outcome by utilising standard conventions of journalistic practice, whilst employing viewpoint techniques through comparative analysis and data driven analytics to put forth human interest through the representation of facts. By covering the political landscape with direct parallels to the political landscape before and during the election campaign, it highlights how the success of the new prime minister has come to light. While the online article focuses on the impacts and outcomes of the event, the BBC instagram used multimodal conventions of video and text to portray how the success of the Prime Minister has been a hard fought campaign.

The social media coverage of the event fostered the ability to communicate the election results and involve a comparative analysis with obtaining video clips to support their claims. The multimodal conventions used in the BBC coverage of this event reconstructed the scene to be immersive to human interest through the impacts of individual voters, whilst outlining the primary events which impacted the result.

The SBS coverage on the 2025 Federal Election articulated through the use of hard and factual statistical data that directly correlates to the quotations included in the articles framing. The online news article focuses around the internal battles faced within each election campaign, highlighting multiple viewpoints through direct claims from the opposition and political experts as to why the result occurred. Unlike the BBC, SBS focused on why the result happened, revolting back to events that took primary responsibility.

The SBS multimodal storytelling on instagram focused around Peter Dutton's defeat, by utilising text and video elements to express the detriment of the Liberals loss in the election campaign. By focusing on Peter Dutton's failed election speech, it facilitates the reasoning as to why the result has occurred, but cinematically celebrates the victory of Anthoney Ablonese for his second term. Both online news sites and their accompanying social media posts portray and reflect their print values, whilst using conventions of accompanying video to text to allow for reinforced political judgements and evaluations to scope the prominence of this issue.
